The most important phrase you#39;ll ever say in a meeting isn#39;t ;Please; or ;Thank you.; It isn#39;t ;How are you?; to open the meeting or ;What are the next steps?; to close the meeting. No, the most important phrase you#39;ll ever say in a meeting is:你在会面时说的最重要的一句话并不是会面开始时的“请”或“谢谢”,也不是会面结束时的“下一步是什么?”。 How can I help you? My father-in-law taught me to show your friendship first. There#39;s no better way to show that you care about the person you#39;re meeting with than to genuinely, authentically ask her what you can do to help. There are two possibilities when you ask how you can help:当你这么问时有两种可能:1) The person will tell you, thereby giving you an opportunity to help, after which the person you helped will feel compelled to return the favor, and help you.1)此人会告诉你,从而给了你帮助他的机会。 2) The person won#39;t tell you, instead politely declining, but then she will still feel like you care, and will be emotionally invested in helping you.2)此人不会告诉你,相反会礼貌地拒绝,但是她会因此觉得你关心她,所以在那之后会在感情上倾向于帮助你。Either way, establishing that you care and that you#39;re there to help is a powerful emotional bond. It#39;s a paradox, I know - you#39;re not meeting with someone to find out how you can help, you#39;re likely meeting to get something sold, or bought, or done. But it#39;s through helping that you#39;ll gain trust, and eventually, influence. Nine months ago, Michael Kislin, a financial advisor, met with me for the first time, and asked me, ;How can I help you?; I told him about my startup venture Likeable Local, and said I could use some introductions to technology investors. He asked me a bunch of questions to learn more, and soon after, introduced me to several people he thought could help me. Then I called him to thank him, and thought to ask him to tell me more about what he did. I soon became a client of Michael#39;s. Three weeks ago, I met with an employee for a 1-on-1 for the first time, and asked her, ;How can I help you?; She told me how I could help make her job easier, more productive and more efficient. I helped her, and now she#39;s more productive than ever before. If it seems simple, it is. It doesn#39;t matter whether it#39;s a customer, a prospect, or a colleague you#39;re meeting with - we all like to be cared about, and we all can use some help. Just make sure you#39;re genuine, never contrived, and ask in your next meeting, ;How can I help you?;要是这看上去很简单,确实是。 /201306/242566

You are never too old to learn. This is never too right for a man who started his ballet dream at the age of 79. An 88-YEAR-OLD man starred in his first ballet production Sunday after learning to dance at the tender age of 79. Retired teacher John Lowe, of Witchford, Cambridgeshire, has been busy perfecting his pirouettes ahead of his role in Prokofiev's The Stone Flower. The pensioner, who has 11 grandchildren, said: "I practise each day and I've got a rope at home that I use to pull my leg up higher. "I'm lucky that I don't have any problem with the routines but that's because I exercise." Mr Lowe started ballet nine years ago, having watched his daughter Alison become a professional dancer. "I think it's a wonderful thing to do and I can't understand why more men don't do it," he said. "There's nothing effeminate about it — you have to be incredibly fit to dance. I see some people crawling around, hunched over smoking a cigarette — they should be doing ballet. "It's a wonderful feeling. I had always wanted to dance and it's never too late to learn." Mr Lowe, who is part of the Lantern Dance Theatre Company, acted a lumberman in the play. Vocabulary: tender age:the time when you are young or do not have much experience(幼年或没经验的年龄段) routine:a set of movements(一套动作) /200801/25618

Darren Julien, the house’s chief executive, says investors and hedge funds are looking at fashion as a way to diversify from other hard goods, such as art, as fashion “will turn a profit over five years and shows wealth and status in the office while it appreciates”.2011年,在洛杉矶“明星拍卖行”朱利安拍卖行(Julien’s)举行的一场拍卖会上,迈克尔? Celia Joicey, head of London’s Fashion and Textile Museum, which experienced an 87 per cent year-on-year increase in visitors to August 2013, says: “Fashion was given a value the minute it went into the museum space, with prices rising alongside the soaring visitor figures.” 87%。Dilys Blum, senior curator at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which has a 30,000-strong fashion collection that includes Grace Kelly’s wedding dress, says: “There’s not that much 18th- and 19th-century material around now because the pieces are more difficult to find. It’s all about 20th-century couture and wearable fashion because this is where the money is.” Japanese designers from the 1980s such as Comme des Gar?ons and Yohji Yamamoto are must-buy names now, say industry insiders. They will be “unaffordable for individuals in 10 years’ time”, says fashion auctioneer Kerry Taylor, whose fashion and textiles sale kicked off the international fashion auction season this month. As Yves Saint Laurent muse Danielle Luquet de Saint Germain says: “In the old days a couture dress was a work of art.” Last week, she held the first of many sales of her 12,000-piece collection at Paris’s H?tel Drouot.
